L to R: Susan Bocian (Dieruff Principal), Trisha R. Higgins, (Vice President and CFO of LVCF), Maryann Gross (ASD Arts Administrator), Sarah E. Barrett (Executive Director YWCA), Stacey Mondschein (DHS Rowing Teacher) and Agustina Ayala (DHS Rowing Club Member) The DHS Rowing Club has been selected as a recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation.

The club, which started last year, is run by Stacey Mondschein, Health and Physical Education teacher. Students participated in a 3-day overnight rowing camp that took place at Lehigh University and competed in the Philadelphia Youth Regatta in 2017, but wanted to do more. Through a partnership with the YWCA, a grant application was submitted to the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation to provide funding that will allow the students to participate in more events and gain more exposure to the sport of rowing. Students train after school on rowing machines but are able to hit the water and train on the Lehigh River in the springtime.

On March 20, representatives from the YWCA, LVCF and DHS Rowing Club came together for a check presentation. The Huskies are thankful to all involved in the grant writing process and look forward to the future of rowing at DHS!
