Rick Hollister - Swimming

The "Homecoming" for Dieruff Swimmer Rick Hollister was a smashing success.... thanks to the magnificent planning by Steve Long.

Rick was Dieruff's first State Champion, and first All-American in 1962. Susan Bocian had arranged to have the electronic marquee outside the school welcome Rick. A handful of swim team alumni from those early years, as well as Asst. Swim Coach John Nagle, were on hand to greet Rick and his wife as he approached the front door of the high school.

Following a tour of the school, Principal Susan Bocian led Rick and the enthusiastic group of alumni into the Dennis McGinley Natatorium. On the wall was a newly created plaque honoring Rick as our first State Champion and first All-American. Everyone also took note that the adjacent wall reflects the Dieruff Records in all of the swim events. Even though it has been 50 years since Rick Hollister competed for Dieruff, his name still appears as the record-holder in three events... the 50-Yard Freestyle, the 100-Yard Freestyle, and the 200-Yard Relay.
