A Message from Principal Makhoul

MakhoulDear parents and/or guardians,

On behalf of the staff at Louis E. Dieruff High School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year!  This year brings with it the tides of change and with these changes comes a great level of excitement at the prospect of our potential.  In order to enhance our collective capacity, we hope for a productive partnership with you, our parents and guardians, to ensure that our students achieve their highest potential.  Our collective efficacy refers to our collaborative efforts to support and promote our students’ academic and personal growth through school as they prepare for their futures.  As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success, and I want to reassure you that we will work tirelessly to carry out our district’s mission and our professional responsibilities to that end.  We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience

2) Engages with and completes all instructional activities and assignments

3) Gets involved in the numerous clubs, activities, and/or athletics programs we offer

4) Informs you and us if he/she needs any social-emotional or academic support

5) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college or a career pathway.

I kindly as that you read and review the student and family handbook which outlines many of the operational aspects that makes our school a safe and supportive learning environment.  Please review this booklet together with your children. If you have any questions about the school policies, rules and expectations, please feel free to contact us to discuss them.  Transparency and trust are critical to our collaboration and collective efforts.  It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding standards and policies related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year.  The student and family handbook is also available on our school’s website at  Remember that you can also stay informed of your child’s progress via our Sapphire community portal, which is also available on our website.  On behalf of the Husky faculty and staff, I want to thank you for sharing your children with us and for being our valued partners as we collectively, Lead and Serve with Husky Pride!
